Alfred, a Community Health Worker in Maridi, South Sudan, supports families living with mental health and neurological conditions, like Mary Daniel, whose son Salu has nodding syndrome, an extremely rare form of epilepsy. Alfred connects the family with specialised care and regularly visits them to see how they’re doing.
Helen, a midwife in South Sudan, supports women through pregnancy, birth and beyond, keeping them healthy and ensuring their babies get the best possible start in life.
People like them are changing lives, saving lives, and building equitable, resilient health systems in their countries.

Amref Health Africa is the largest Africa-based international health development organisation. Every year, we work in around 40 countries to improve people’s access to primary healthcare to bring about lasting health change in Africa.
We begin by listening to communities, designing our programmes and finding solutions in partnership with them. We look at the barriers that stand in the way of people accessing health services and address them holistically. Our programmes are people-centred, evidence-based, and sustainable.
